Ares Vista – Liability Issues for Campuses
By Sam on April 7th, 2010
With the use of Internet on University campuses across America the schools have had to look at a growing problem, illegal music filesharing. With the record industry having gone on a strong offensive to stamp out piracy, schools have had to reevaluate there stance. The fact that a University can be held liable as the students service provider has heightened there awareness of a need to do something. Florida school clamps down on filesharers by using a new program called Packeteer to help them monitor the traffic on the Internet, mainly the traffic of Ares music filesharing. This is considered an illegal practice on many University campuses.
Helping the Fight for Rights
Many people and companies are in a bit of a concern with the whole debate of file sharing. While some big companies were forced, by laws, to stop there practices, there still are many companies out there that provide a service to customers. Comcast steps up for filesharing rights as they see this as an infringement on an individuals right. They want to see the government help create an Internet Bill of rights that will allow companies and persons to do business with out this constant interfering on how they do business. The fact that every time a company turns around there is another threat of a lawsuit, these companies want to see this happen.
